The Obama administration has been claiming to have cracked down on illegal immigration and have tried to report record numbers of deportations.  They may have marked a record number of illegals for deportation, but according to a recent audit, those numbers do not reflect the actual number of illegals physically sent back across the border.

The Homeland Security Department’s Inspector General conducted an audit that revealed the immigration system is seriously broken, as if we all didn’t already know that.  The audit revealed that there are around 800,000 illegal aliens that have already been marked for deportation that are still in the US.  A number of them have criminal records that include extortion and assault.  A number of them have also received government approval for benefits such as food stamps and Medicaid through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program.

All toll, about 12% or 1 in 8, of those marked for deportation slip through the system.  The auditor report said:

“The failures in our sample include individuals who applied for unemployment and disability insurance, food stamps, driver’s licenses and other benefits.  Several individuals had criminal records, including assault with a deadly weapon, extortion, drug convictions and other convictions such as burglary, stalking and child abuse.”
