A Texas judge ruled today in favor of a high school cheerleading team fighting a school district’s decision to prohibit banners displaying Bible verses at football games.

Kountze High School cheerleaders and their parents sued the Kountze Independent School District (ISD) last month after the district banned the banners.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, who filed a petition Wednesday to intervene on behalf of the cheerleaders, told CitizenLink that students have a First Amendment right to express their religious beliefs in school.
