For quite some time, Glenn Beck has been speaking of the Romeike family’s plight.
In case you are unaware Uwe, Hennelore Romeike and their children are the German family that fled their home country. In Germany home schooling is apparently illegal. To avoid further prosecution they fled to the United States and requested asylum.
There is however another German family that has not been so fortunate and that is an understatement. The Wunderlich family of Darmstadt Germany has made headlines also, at least in Europe.
The Wunderlich’s have been trying to homeschool their four children for years. German authorities had repeatedly harassed them. At one point they left Germany and settled in France at the home of a friend. But French authorities came and snatched the children claiming they were “left alone” and neglected.
After they regain custody, the family headed back to Germany, where things got a lot worse.
According to the HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association), Germany is party to many human rights treaties that recognize parents’ rights to homeschool according to their religious convictions.
Yet Germany has simply refused to abide by the agreement. Sound familiar? A government that refuses to uphold laws and treaties?
